2021 Changemaker Resolutions

If your aspirations for 2021 include becoming an even more effective changemaker, I’ve identified these three high-potential / high-return resolutions for you:

  1. Start launching small experiments to test new ideas before going big.

  2. Spend time learning about, and then taking action on climate, DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion) and/or mental health.

  3. Practice resilience and self-care to sustain yourself and your impact.

We’ll start with #1 today and I’ll cover each one in more detail for you throughout the month of January.

Resolution #1: Experimentation

2020 brought disruption to every single facet of our lives, personally and professionally. 2021 invites us to get perspective on just how radically things have shifted and to begin to rethink how we construct our new path forward collectively. And while we can’t operate with certainty, we can proceed with curiosity.

That curiosity will lead changemakers to run myriad tests and experiments across sectors and industries to see which changes stick and which do not. Navigating so much uncertainty welcomes a mindset of wonder and experimentation. Successful experimentation calls for moving efficiently from having an insight to generating a hypothesis and then running a test and gathering insights from it.

Once we run some tests and achieve some initial traction, we can then turn on our full effort and energy and go all-in to catalyzing change. We can’t predict the future; but by learning to experiment nimbly, we changemakers can, indeed, create it.
